Well I am on my way
Hello
Finally it happened. Last night I stepped on to the no longer imaginary MV Theodor Storm. Ten days too late (due to the holiday season I am told). I have no pictures of the boat and hope to have them when I arrive in Singapore. But there are two photos of my cabin and bathroom. Should be reasonably comfortable depending on how much the boat rocks.
It interesting leaving through a port as you are the exception rather than the rule. It seems that everyone is not quite sure what to do with me. The first words that greeted me when I arrived on board was 'passenger', which was a echoed through the galleys as I walked through the ship. I think it may be my de facto name for the trip.
The crew is still a mix of filipino and Russian/Ukrainian. I guess it is to be expected that the filipino are friendlier than the russian crew and the chef went out of his way to get me food and carry my baggage to my room. There are 4 main decks with a being the lowest and D being the highest. I am on D and roughly in the centre of the ship looking forward. I have taken a photo out of my window but you can't see that much becuase it seems window cleaners don't make it onto ships.
The loading and logisitics on port is very interesting but all I will say is it is about as big a you think it is. I might leave all that for another time.
As a final note! No, I am not currently on the boat, as the boat is not leaving till 11pm tonight I was allowed to get off the boat and spend the night in the city but I shall return to the boat the this afternoon for a night time departure. So on my last morning in Sydney (as I now travel to Melbourne and Perth) I am eating pancakes on my mum's balcony with a cup of tea. See you all later.
Tjus, Bye, Doei!!
